GOJHL Hires new commissioner

GREATER ONTARIO JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE ANNOUNCES HIRE OF NEW
COMMISSIONER
Bringing key experience to the League, Brent Garbutt is officially recruited to the
GOJHL as new commissioner

 

CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO | APRIL 6 2021 – Announced today with an official start date
of April 12th, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) would like to welcome
Brent Garbutt as commissioner. With years of experience working directly with junior
hockey, Brent offers a unique skillset to the league.
“With Brent Garbutt’s expertise and drive, the GOJHL will continue to support player
development and act as a vital source of opportunity and growth for young players,”
says Scott Miller, GOJHL Chairman. “We are highly confident in Brent’s ability to
navigate the needs of the League and provide integral solutions and innovations. I look
forward to working with him moving forward.”

Garbutt comes to the GOJHL from Ontario University Athletics (OUA) as their Manager
of Sport, while also currently working as a Video Coordinator in the National Hockey
League’s (NHL) Situation Room. He possesses extensive experience within the junior
hockey and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) landscape from his time with the Ontario
Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Garbutt began as the OJHL’s Manager of Hockey
Administration in 2011 before being promoted to Director, Hockey Operations.
Previously, Garbutt served two stints as Team Canada East’s Director of Operations at
the 2014 & 2016 World Jr. ‘A’ Challenge.
Garbutt was awarded his Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration from
Laurentian University in 2008.The Nepean, ON native got his start working with the Ottawa Senators in 2002-03 and
2003-04, before interning with NHL Central Scouting in 2007 and beginning his career
as the ECHL’s Manager of Hockey Operations in 2009. Garbutt now resides in
Burlington, ON with his wife, Nicole and son, Reichen.
